Errata¶
This is a collection of errata for the print version of the book “Dynamics and Astrophysics of Galaxies” (Princeton University Press 2026). Typos and other mistakes in the web version are corrected when identified. If you find other typos or other mistakes, please report them at the Issue Tracker on GitHub.
Chapter 3¶
Equation (3.64) should have an \(m\) in front of \(\Phi(R)\), i.e., \begin{equation*} {1 \over 2m}\,\left[\left(\frac{\partial W}{\partial R}\right)^2 + \frac{1}{R^2}\,\left(\frac{\partial W}{\partial \phi}\right)^2\right] + m\Phi(R) = E\,. \end{equation*} (found by Soran Zoorasna.)
Chapter 4¶
Exercise 3(a): The definition of \(s\) should be \(s = -GM / (b\Phi)\) (found by Carlos Vera-Ciro).
Exercise 3(b): Equation (4.89) should be
\begin{equation*} 2E\,s^2 - 2\left(2E-{GM\over b}\right)\,s-{4GM \over b}-{L^2 \over b^2}=0\,. \end{equation*}

Chapter 5¶
Exercise 12(a): The definition of \(y\) should be \(y=\ln \rho/\rho_0\) (found by Carlos Vera-Ciro).
Chapter 18¶
The end of the paragraph before Equation (18.9) should read “Dust emission is the dominant component of the flux emitted at \(\lambda \gtrsim 10\,\mu \mathrm{m}\) for typical galaxies.”, not \(\gtrsim 10\,\AA\) (found by Cam Lawlor-Forsyth).
Appendix A¶
The statement below Equation (A.16) that the Galactic coordinate frame is a left-handed system is wrong; it is in fact a right-handed system (found by Leandro Beraldo e Silva).
